Horse Play & My New Tool

The boys were really feelin' their oats this afternoon when I went out to catch Colt. He pastures with the Kiger mustang Brego. They get along great and neither of them get too many bite or kick marks. I like to let them be horses as much as possible...

WhoooooHooooo Let 'er Buck!!!

Colt says "Brego, I'm takin' ya down."
(Notice the dust and the snow? Typical Harney County.)

Colt's practicing ballet...don't ya think?
I'm almost embarrassed....I don't know what he's doin'!!

The old men, Whiskey and Toby, on the other side of the fence
just stood there
watching them and said
"I remember when I was that stupid....neiiiiiigggghhhhh!!!"

After all the fun was over, it was back to business.

My Man snatched this jumbo sized curry comb up for me at the Winnemucca sale two weeks ago...I absolutely love it!!! It really tackles the mud.

As you can see, it's way bigger than the regular sized ones. I used one like it over at Todd's and loved it then...so as I gazed longingly at this one, My Man took the hint and forked out the cash for me...what a Man!!! ;~)

  1. Hah! It doesn't take much to makea horse-lovin' cowgirl happy, does it? :D

Love that photo of Colt's ballet! I'd crop it just a bit and play with it. That photo is worthy of a horse/animal photo contest! I've not seen anything that good for a long while.

Your commentary totally made your post, though. And the old men...lol! Reminded me of the Muppets' old men. Remember them?? lol!

Yep, our environment's similar to yours right now....snow, wind and dust. Dry as a bone. :P

  4. Oh, golly that one of Colt is hysterical!

All you need to do is photoshop that fence out of the pic of him and Brego playing...

I think I'm going to have to invest in one of those metal curries for Sandy.

  6. Colt is practicing to be a steeplechase horse; going over hedges and water jumps??? Ya think? It is a really neat picture. Don't you just love it when you take a picture and get something unexpected like that? What fun!!! I like to set my camera on a sports setting and snap 5 or 6 pictures in a row. That's when you get some really good ones of the action.

  7. I love to see horses just being horses, your photos captured that perfectly. I love the one of Colt at full stretch, it reminds me of those old English hunting prints when they always painted horses in that position!

  9. This time of year, you've gotta go with the big guns. I love the look on my guys' faces when I start brushing them with the push broom.

Oh - and I know exactly what Colt is doing in that great shot - posing for this rug.

  10. I love that picture of Colt leaping in the air! It's great. And the snow and the dust....worst of both irritating riding conditions....LOL! At least you don't have mud though. I've got some to spare if you want any! ;)

  13. I Like the way those boys are celebrating the warmer weather! I could use a large cury comb like yours... my horse are very hairy and that would sure cover alot of territory!

  17. Sometimes I think the comment thingy hates me. I could have sworn I'd left a comment here earlier. Love the shot of Colt leaping through the air, nice capture :)

  18. Great shot of ballet moves! The boys look like they were having a blast. We have a couple of those shedding springs but I got a flat metal shedding comb that really pulls the shedding hair out and gets the mud off. I'll see if I can get a pic of it. Our guys are just starting to shed some hair.
