Tuesday Tune ~ Templeton Thompson

I've featured Templeton Thompson before...I always love her music. This song was just listed on YouTube, and it seemed to hit home with me. Not in the aspect of actually getting a horse rode in my case...but getting bucked off in life...you still gotta get back up in the saddle again~

And for those curious minds regarding the new calf with Annabelle, they're still not quite together yet, but it seems closer than yesterday!! My Man and I gave him a dose of Tri-Pectate (pectin, glucose, electrolytes) this mornin', and Annabelle was at the stall door lookin' very worried as to what we were doin' with her calf!!! She was talkin' to him and everything...yeah!!

Day Dreaming...Branding Season

Yes, I've been day dreaming...sparked by baby calves.

A lot of the ranches around here are starting to get calves on the ground...it's an exciting time. I saw many on my drive to town yesterday. So far the weather's been holding pretty good. A lot of ranchers won't start calving until March (like us); it's a personal preference...decisions made by past experience usually, or maybe tradition.

January and February can be pretty harsh in SE Oregon, and loosing calves to bad weather is terrible...if you only have a few head, it's easy to keep an eye on everyone. But many ranches have hundreds or even thousands of cows to calve out, which makes it very difficult to make sure every calf gets up to nurse for that first time.

I dug through my archives from last year's brandings for this photo. Since I was usually holding a rope instead of a camera last year, I don't have near the number of photos I've had in year's past.

But, I'm ready to hold the rope again...it's an addiction ;~)

My Man found this video the other night...it's always fun to find something that hits close to home. The photographer is from our area, JoAnna Lamb, and she's got some awesome photos of the Great Basin Buckaroos (and Buckaretts!) hard at work doing what they do best.

And the music is by Dave Stamey...who I can listen to all day long. The song is the perfect accompaniment to JoAnna's photos. I think you'll enjoy~

Tuesday Tune ~ Adrian Buckaroogirl

A little on the lighter side today...don't ya think after yesterday's coyote discussion?

But, I've got to say that I enjoyed reading everyone's comments and appreciate the understanding of those who have been there and have experienced the cruelty of nature (and shared your stories), and I appreciate the open mindedness of those who hope they never have to live it themselves but are ready to do what's necessary to protect their family.

Like Cindy D. commented "it's their prerogative"...and yes, indeed it is...and we'll just leave it at that.

So, let's get on to some fun!

I haven't done a tune for a while on the blog...not sure if you enjoy them or not, but I do! My Man and I don't listen to "country" music...we favor "cowboy" music.

This song, Old Time Vaquero, is almost haunting when you watch the video with the awesome old photos from way back when. It was written by Adrian and her father, David Brannan; composed by Adrian.

Looking closely at the photos, I'm amazed by how similar the way the cow work was done back then to how it's done today where we live. It gave me a flashback; it's why I was in tears sitting on Colt at the fire with my first calf to brand...I got to live the dream.

You'll want to take note of the horses, their gear, the construction of the corrals...everything in these photos are a treasure.

Adrian and I are nothing alike...she likes horses that buck, and I like mine to keep their feet on the ground...she wears make up and looks like a gorgeous doll, and I don't even own a tube of lipstick. But I love her music and her youthful exuberance for life!

Another Tuesday Tune ~ A Cowboy Song

Here's another awesome song...by a gal with a gorgeous voice, Trinity Seely.

The bonus on this video is the photographer, Mary Williams Hyde (friend her of FB, she's worth it); one of the best buckaroo/cowboy photographers around.

Her website Buckaroo Country, has thousands of awesome photos of the real, gritty, into the dirt kind of photos of working buckaroos and their talented horses. She captures them working hard and playing hard. Her site is well worth the small subscription fee...you get to see it like it really is!

Today, I'm packing for the big city...Portland. My Man's in charge of all the critters; I'm sure they'll all be fine...but I'll miss them all so much!

I had a flu bug the past few days, but I'm on the mend now...thank goodness. With camera in tow, I hope to take some shots of things I don't normally see...tall trees and lots of people...ha!

Red is Mr. Postman!

I wanted to title this post "Red Goes Postal"...but didn't think it was very appropriate.

I worked eight days in a row at the post office before Christmas, and Red was allowed to come with me! He was a very good boy...and loved to see everyone who came in!

Hi!!! I'm Red...who are you??!!

My Man and I were laughing at his photo here and I said "Isn't there a song about that somewhere?" Well of course (just Google)...how could I have forgotten...now that I've listened to it half a dozen times, it's stuck in my head!!

Red was a very good Postman...always willing to help...

Do you need me to help you lick those stamps?!?

And everyone thought he as the cutest...yep, he is!

Monday Music ~ Dave Stamey

I came upon this video via another FaceBook user. He posted a Dave Stamey video...which lead me to this one...

So, I get to watchin' this video...lovin' the music...and toward the end I see two people I know!!! One is my farrier, Pat, and the other is his best buddy...I knew they went to the Vaquero Fiesta, but I didn't know that there was a video...Pat's been holdin' out on me ;~)

The first thing I did was go to iTunes and buy the song...

Well, now I can't get this song out of my head...probably 'cause I keep playin' it over and over and over and over and over...must have somethin' with Spinnin' the Pony ;~)

I know I'm way behind the times (most of the time)...and I just heard this song today. In fact, I've never heard of Templeton Thompson until today.

If you haven't heard this song...please take a listen...I can't stop listening to it...and it makes me cry every time.

It should be every horse girl's theme song.

OK...now I've got to go buy the song for my iPod!!!

Sunday Stills ~ Technology

This week's Sunday Stills photo challenge is Technology.

I'm one of the slowest people to get into the techno gadget thing...but the gadgets that I do have are useful to me...either daily or upon occasion.

This is my upon occasion gadget. I never thought I'd own

or want to own an iPod...it really bugs me to see

kids plugged into their iPods all day long...they're

loosing out on communicating and being social...IMHO.

But when my lil' brother brought his to a family get together

a couple of years ago and plugged it into a speaker device

I could see the possibilities!

MUSIC while camping without dragging around the

huge boom box and CD's!

We always take it camping and I also take it to

my hotel room when I'm doing my Ag Survey

trainings or field work...it's wonderful...

until I run out of battery power ;~)

This is our daily entertainment. Sirius satellite radio.

Without TV and only two radio stations in our area

(one of which we can only get during the daylight hours)

it's one of the best subscriptions we've ever made!

We love Willie's Place and Outlaw Country, and

I listen to The Coffee House most of the day.

My last subject is not so technologically advanced but I still consider it technology...it's a huge time saver to us and many others who own livestock or pets...

I'm sure whoever invented the water tank heater

is basking in the sun in Jamaica right now

enjoying a beverage with an umbrella in it!

Music to My Ears

Yep, I do like my music. And, I enjoy a variety of genres...not that I know exactly which genre each song fits into. I've kept my PlayList along the "Cowboy Song" type theme and many of you readers have commented that you leave my page open just to listen to the music...

This one of my favorite stations on Live365. They play Cowboy music. From ol' time Gene Autry to Sons of the San Joaquin, Wylie and the Wild West, Don Edwards, Ian Tyson, and everything in between.

My Man and I love to dance...that's how we met...in a bar with big dance floor and a live band playing country music. We love to waltz, two-step, west coast swing, one-step, swing, Arizona two-step...hence the Honky Tonk PlayList. We don't go out dancin' very often, but you can probably catch us cuttin' a rug in the kitchen on a Friday or Saturday night! FYI, I just started this list a couple of weeks ago and will be adding more songs.
