Today I had an experience that made me feel as if I had become "one with the horse."
I've been having a little sensitivity in a back molar since late last week, so I had an appointment for today to see the dreaded dentist. Really not all that dreaded...I haven't had to have any work (except for the twice yearly cleanings) for over 5 years. So, really I feel pretty lucky. But, my mouth was throbbing so bad that it would wake me up in the middle of the night. I knew something was wrong...figured it was a root canal procedure that would be needed.
So, the assistant takes the x-rays and gets everything all set up for Dr Matt (young cute kid). He proceeds to test, poke, and prod. Then has Ann the assistant take another x-ray suspecting a decay on the tooth. After the x-ray and more poking and prodding, he starts working my jaw forward, back, and side to side. Ouch!! The side to side going to the right with my teeth clenched found the problem!!
I needed my tooth floated!!! Yep, as we get older, our mouths start changing and we can develop high spots where the bite does not come together well anymore. Stress can be a factor in bringing out the issue. Do you think it could have been 5 extra people and 3 extra dogs for 4 days over Thanksgiving in our house?!? Probably. I know I keep my teeth clenched when stressed, and this time it "sprained" my tooth!
So, he files my tooth just a little and polished it off. It seems to have worked!! It's still sore because it has to heal, but the bite is better.
Then he suggested that I take a anti-inflammatory to quicken the healing process...he said that I probably had some on hand as an injectable since I had horses, but he said that I would probably prefer the oral. I agreed on the oral, but didn't quite get what he was really talking about.
But when I got to the pharmacy and picked up the prescription of Dexamethasone I was laughing my ass off!!! I got it now! Of course I have Dexamethasone on hand for my horses if they have an allergic reaction. I learned that one the hard way a couple of years ago when Toby got hives and the trembles from his West Nile vaccination.
So, I got my teeth floated and am on Dexamethasone...just like a horse.
It feels good to be "one with the horse."
