Indoor Blossoms

So, winter finally gets here when we're all ready for spring to arrive...figures huh?

We still don't have our normal snow, but the past week has been cold and the wind's been blowing with bits and dabs of snow here and there. The tank heaters are going strong...Colt and Gus have been in the barn at night since they don't have a run-in shed in their pasture. They do appreciate getting out of the wind at night.

For me...this cold snap's a good excuse to stay inside and watch my cacti bloom!

It's amazing what a difference one day makes!

Blooming Day One
Yesterday's blossom

Blooming Day Two
Today's blossom...BOING!!!

I guess it's a Christmas Cactus...it's been blooming for a couple of months now...but this looks like the last blossom. It sure cheers up the kitchen window sill.

My Man just called me and said that he heard that there's an additional 4 inches of new snow in Bend (central Oregon) and it's coming down hard there. I'm glad I rescheduled my root canal appointment that I had over there for today to next week. It's a three hour drive one way at 65 mph...obviously a lot longer at 35 mph!! The root canal can wait for better weather next Monday!

I'm participating in Rural Thursday sponsored by A Rural Journal and Two Bears Farm...come along and join the blog hop into Rural America and other rural points around the world!!

  1. My cactus is just starting to bloom, yours is lovely. I guess mine is an Easter Cactus.
We got snow , about 4 inches, but at least no wind, and mild temps so it shouldn't last long.
What are you doing with Gus this year?

  2. I have never had any luck with a Christmas cactus, or an Easter one for that matter...that is a gorgeous bloom. And what a great idea to photograph the change!

  3. Ah yes Gus...the plan is to have him ready to sell in the Shelman Family Horse Sale in August. They have a sale in April too, but we're not ready.

  8. Love your cactus.

Hmmm. Sounds like a very good reason to postpone a root canal ;-)

  9. Oh ya... who wants to drive home 3 hours AFTER the root canal, let alone drive to it and have to anticipate it for 3 hours. Wise decision to wait.

We have buds on our trees outside... not as boingy as your Christmas cactus blossom yet.

  10. I had several very large ones, both about 20 years old that perished a couple years ago (for an unknown reason)... I miss their beauty a lot... lucky you to have their colorful display to enjoy! Lovely shots... I'm your latest follower here and on G+ too...
