Hot Fun at the Cutting Show!

Yes, it was HOT...95 degrees...thank goodness there was a nice gentle breeze to keep us cooled down!

But, really we had an awesome day at the High Desert Cutters show which was held at the Roaring Springs Ranch in Catlow Valley...my favorite place! We had finished the cutting shortly after noon and with the lil' bit of clean up and some chatting over a cold beverage, we were home by around 2 PM.

My Man did a great job with the video too!

I signed us up for two classes; our class which is the 125, and I rode up into the next class, the 150. We rode last in the 150 and first in the 125...so we rode our classes back to back with no cattle change in between.

You can see in the video that Colt (and I) got sort of excited on the first cow in the 150 class...I find it hard to just be as cool as a cucumber when I'm competing...my insides just start stirring and the adrenaline starts to pump...which of course Colt picks up on. But, we settled in and made a couple of good runs.

I was super proud of Colt...we placed 2nd in the 150 class and won the 125 class!! Colt definitely gets the next couple of days off. We had worked M-F and had the show on Saturday...he was tired!

But, we're makin' progress for the futurity!!!

Thank you everyone for your good luck wishes and thoughts...I know it made a difference!

  2. Wow, he (you both) looked really good! I hadn't seen you work in a while, seems like he is a lot more cowy!!! Sometimes I think it's good that they've been worked prior to competition. It kind of takes the edge off! Congratulations!!!

  3. Thanks Andrea & MJ...and yes, he's showing a lot more cow! I think it's because of the ranch work I've gotten to do with him this past spring...especially sorting pairs. He really enjoys it, and did it well too...and seemed to realize the reason for what he was doing!

  6. Wow, that boy's got COW! Those were some pretty nice runs, but the best part was your excitement at the very end when you knew you'd had good runs! Congratulations and well done!

  7. I heard a story once about an old cowboy who went to a cutting competition with his favorite horse but decided not to compete. Said he felt "so sorry for those fellers whose cows keep getting back in the herd after all their hard work". We usually have to cut them out and get them quite a ways to someplace else. Nothing like watching a cowy horse work cattle. I have a little guy I think would do well in the arena someday but there's not much opportunity for me to do that. I admire you cutters, though.
