The days quickly go by, and I never seem to get enough done.
Colt is slowly but steadly improving. He's still on stall rest and getting therapy. Brego is coming along. But the Eastern Oregon winds have picked up, and it's just been darn cold for training horses without an indoor facility.
So, I bundle up with the insulated bibs and spend a good part of the day at the barn. I'm so thankful that my round pen has good footing right now, and I'm able to make some small progress at least.

That seems to be the only part of
the day that we get any sunshine. The rest of
the day is usually cloudy and dark.
Ellie and Annabelle are enjoying some of the
bad hay we threw out into the waste pile...
go figure...
But, look closely past the wheel line to the left.
Neither the dogs nor I noticed this stealthy visitor.
I realized he was there when I downloaded
my photos from the morning...a coyote.
OK...to answer a few reader's question from this week's Macro Monday, "what is it" that I photographed in the first picture...to tell you the truth, I haven't a clue. But, it's some sort of moss...
It's very green and grows quite well
on the rock cliff where the sun doesn't shine too much.

This is sunset at our place. The hill to the west behind our house prevents us from seeing the actual sunset, but we get awesome views looking to the east as the sun descends behind the hills to the west...I know...back asswards...

clouds behind the butte really emphasize the
light contrast.
It's Thursday!!! The weekend is just around the corner!

I love the last two pictures, we don't get a whole hell of alot of sun either and I am so tired of the gloomy weather. I sure wish I had an indoor also. I think I would do a lot more with the horses in the winter if I did. When the barn is done downstairs I should still have a pretty big alley way to do a little bit!

ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that you are getting in a little round pen time. You are tough to bundle up and brave that cold weather. My round pen is still buried in snow and we have (ugh) more on its way! I'm really looking forward to spring this year!! It's already been a long, cold winter, and it's not even close to being over yet...

ReplyDeleteI love your part of Oregon, the sage country, the buttes, the openness. I think some would consider it a barren wasteland, but I find it beautiful and full of delights. You are blessed to be surrounded by such beauty! Glad Colts coming along!

Jayke~Coyotes are always a problem to the cattle and sheep ranchers. They definitely take their fair share of the newborns. Now that we're going to have newborn calves this spring too, we'll have to keep a close watch. Last summer while riding on our hill behind the house, 7 coyotes came running out of their den as I rode past. That's a few too many in my opinion. They get as close as 100 yards from the house and barns, but I don't trust them one bit. We have a friend who is a hunting guide and we're going to have him bring clients to lessen the population. Some folks may not agree, but it's a safety issue for us.
