The Eve of Y2K~Where Were You?

Y2K...all the hoopla...as if the world would never be the same as we new it in 1999.

As we two-stepped, waltzed, and put in a few good swing dances at a truck stop honky tonk in Portland Oregon, we waited for midnight to arrive...wondering...would any or all of the predictions about the millennium actually happen???

Well...no, as you well know.

We celebrated ringing in the Year 2000 with our best friends; 3 other couples, and we called ourselves the 8-pack. We danced until the band wouldn't play any more, and then headed over to the 24 hour diner to have some breakfast...at 2 AM...

That seems like a lifetime ago...

Last evening while feeding...it was beautiful.

The years go by...

One of the 8-pack passed away just a few years ago...another couple has divorced...and the other couple we haven't seen for 3-4 years...

How strange that things you think are forever...are not...

The eve of the full "Blue Moon" rising over Hat Butte.

I remember wearing one of my drill team costumes that night. I don't do much "bling" but I guess I thought I needed to have a lil' sparkle that night. Rhinestones and sequins were required for drill team costumes and I had a lot of those.

Toasting at midnight with champagne in plastic glasses. Than more dancing...it was a great night. My Man and I couldn't have asked for a better way to welcome in the year 2000.

Testing out the new camera...but I really should
have been using a tripod. I didn't realize the
moon was going to be rising at sunset.

And here we are...living a life we hadn't even dreamed of a decade ago...life is good.

Tonight? My Man and I are staying home...eating Smoked Prime Rib and fixin's...watching a movie...and if we can stay awake long enough, we'll have a rousting game of cribbage.

But, we do have a bottle of champagne!! I'm even going to bring out the fine glasses.

We will raise our glasses and say "cheers" to my friends and fellow bloggers. We wish ya'll a wonderful New Year with many blessings!

This is as close to a full Blue Moon as I'm going to get.
Tonight it's cloudy and raining.
So, I'll take what I got.

My question to you...where were you on the eve of Y2K? Please leave a comment...I'd love to hear!

Happy New Year!!

  1. If I remember correctly, I stayed home with my parents and sister that night for our traditional New Years Eve movie watching and banana split eating. We truly thought it was a bunch of hoopla...but of course there was the big "what if" question hangin over us...and Mom did have some canned goods stashed. Not sure how we were going to cook it though? Happy New Year!

I can't remember what I was doing in 1999 it sounds like a bad movie, I'm sure I was in some parkinglot in some state I can't remember.

  3. Well life as we know it didn't end that night! I think Ted and I stayed home that night, probably with a bottle of wine and the hottub- back when we lived in Black Diamond Alberta.
Tonight he is working in Ontario, so it's me and the critters and a nice cold drink, snowflakes falling and the wood stove crackling. No moon tonight! You sure got some nice moon shots- bet you're lovin' that camera!

  4. I think a new camera only makes sense with starting a new year. I also think I'm jealous. My blue moon just got slightly green. Thanks for your thought provoking post. Many things that seem so permanent fade away. How wonderful that of the 8pack your "2pack" is still going strong. Best wishes for 2010, Cherie

  6. I was living in Dallas, Texas. SP had come to visit from Oregon, and the day before we got a call his grandpa had an aneurysm and was taken off life support at 11 something on 12/31/99.
It was bitter sweet, a new couple celebrating a new life and another life ended.

This year we are staying home alone and I am blogging !

  7. I think I was at my sisters house in Calgary and there were a few friends over and we were pretty sure nothing was gonna happen, but really thought it would be funny as a practical joke if the power went out at midnight. Looking back I can see that woulda caused mass panic, but still kinda funny.
I have the same camera as you, but somehow your pics are turning out better than mine, good job eith the moon.
We are just staying home tonight and ralaxing, might even have a toast at midnight.

  13. I was partyin like it was 1999 back then. I have a vague memory of... nothing. I have a pic, with a party hat. Otherwise, I don't remember!! (prob a good thing)
Love that Blue Moon :) Why is it the moon just looks "right" in that part of the country. So beautiful. Thanks for the pics.

  14. You know, I don't remember. I was probably doing one of those things that I always preach about "What are you going to remember in 10 years? Are you going to remember cleaning the house or going out with good friends?" Must have been cleaning the house.

Missed the full, blue moon because I got greedy and didn't want to take it a day early...and it was cloudy the next night. Sigh. Your pictures are lovely!!!

    Happy New Year!

  15. Ten years ago we celebrated with our extended family the way we celebrate most things - a huge bonfire. I WAS prepared for Y2K because that is a way of life for us.

Like your friends, the "family" we celebrated with has been blown apart by death, marriage, and moving.

At midnight last night I was feeding the horses and watching them run and buck around the pen. Made me feel good that in -10*F they were feeling sassy.

  17. Envious that you spotted the moon, Karen. Only clouds here.

Y2K? Probably the same place I was this year, attempting to nap on the couch while the kids kept me awake.

  19. Y2K - I had my own disaster, ugh! New Year's Eve night I was just getting out of the hospital days after a bad accident.
But anyway, glad SOMEBODY got to see the blue moon. We had a midnight ride planned, but we had clouds and snow. thanks for sharing the pictures!

  20. On the eve of Y2K?
I was still living in Africa so we had a huge party under the stars in a beautiful spot called Kalowani Pan. Lots of drinking and dancing, good times.
It all seems so long ago doesn't it?
