The New Peeps are Here!

Finally after months of waiting, my lil' peeps have arrived!! My feed store has had a really hard time to get chicks this year...something about a shortage of chick laying hens???

Whatever...just glad they're here...the sooner they get growing, the sooner I can have my fresh eggs again!!

We got six Barred Rock peeps.

They slept like rocks last night...it must have
been a pretty stressful trip to the feed store.
They receive them by US Mail.

How cute huh? Names?
Ha...never been able to name my chickens.
They all look alike!! We usually just call them "the girls."

Oh, I can taste those fresh eggs...come on...hurry up and grow!!!

  1. Barred rocks are beautiful birds! There's nothing better than really fresh eggs from hens that eat and live right!

  2. We had Barred Rocks when I was a kid. Hens are so much fun to watch go about their daily business. Enjoy your new babies!

  3. They are so adorable! I grew up with chickens and loved the fresh eggs! We have talked about getting some chicks, at some point. We eat so many eggs, that I think they would come in handy!

  4. No hen house? Then you could have them year round.

  5. Slept like a ROCK, eh? Perfect for a Barred ROCK! lol!

I have two barred rocks. They are great egg layers. I look forward to seeing chick updates now. :)

  6. Paint Girl~~it's the expensive feed...my chickens that were two this year were giving me one egg a day...out of 5 chickens. Lay pellets are 13.00 for a 50 lb bag and the wild birds ate quite a bit of it too...so I gave them away. Decided we'd get new ones this spring.

Carol~~Yes, we've got a nice chicken coop and keep them year round...I just need to know the magic secret to keep them laying when they get older...I'll take any helpful hints!

Lisa~~Yes, Ms Chicken Lady, I'll keep you updated ;~P

  7. Fantastic those cute little girls! You just made me want eggs for breakfast. It's time here and I am hungry after getting the horses out and mocking anyways. But I only have eggs from the supermarket :(

  8. We call our chickens, collectively, The Adventure Chickens (or freeloaders). I agree, feed prices are outrageous anymore. My older hens are still laying well enough (we put a red heat lamp in the coop and give them old produce from the grocery store to keep them thinking it's "green"), but they keep hiding their eggs in various spots around the barn, which is pretty much the same as not laying well enough...sigh.

  12. So cute! I'd love to have some chickens, but I'm afraid the coyotes would get them.

  13. Seems we both got baby birds this week :) Yours definitely look cuter than mine though and much more practical producing all those yummy fresh eggs.

  16. They are so cute! I love little baby chicks, they are so fun. I love them even more when they grow up and give me yummy eggs! I call mine the girls, too. The husband named one Miss Henny after she was injured and had to stay in his garage for awhile, but now that she's better I can't tell her from the others.
    Congrats on the adorable babes.
