Sunday Stills

This week's Sunday Stills Challenge is "color"...well I looked all week for anything with color and it just wasn't happening. Here in the high desert in winter everything is brown.

While trailing cows I found a rock bank with some red rock in it, but it didn't come out very well photogenically...but, it is fun to see how many faces you can find in the rocks.

This photo of some alfalfa hay that we grew last summer is at least green...

So, I had to make some color. I had bought some material to make dog bandannas that came folded in these cute lil' triangles...this is as colorful as it gets around our place~~

Everyone is invited to join us. Drop by Sunday Stills Color Challenge to get links to all the other participating bloggers. And check back later today...Ed will have next week's challenge posted.

  1. Thinking I see at least 4 faces in the rock. Very cool photo. You're going to have some stylin' doggies wearing those colorful bandana's!

  7. Ed sure knows how to pick a "challenge"-color in the winter isn't easy to find. Love the fabric, it's going to make cute bandanas.

  8. Those rocks freak me out. They look like giant snakes slithering down the hill. Great pics though. I do hope the dogs appreciate their new bandannas :)

  9. I love how you made your own color :)

But seriously, the red rocks...that's a great color shot to me. You have to be able to find the color around you...and you did.

  10. Those bandanas are SO cute! You gave me an idea to pass along to my mom, she could easily get some fabric at Walmart and make little cowgirl- er- cowdog bandanas for their dog Rosie!

  16. Your area just has its own color, brown is a color, isn't it? Curious, what makes some alfalfa flakes really crumbly and some stick together as a flake better? Which is better?

  18. OK I will play, I see 5 faces!
Check out my next blog I posted an old family Black and white photo that if you look in the trees you see several relatives looking on...
Hint: A victorian women, a man face that looks like he might be from the civil war

  19. I think the contrast of the rocks against the sky is a nice use of color.

It looks like you got great prints for bandanas for the dogs. Luckky pups!

  21. Little Cindy Sue is so dadgummed cute!! I'll just bet you could teach her to drive that old tractor!! That sounds like a nice way to spend some time with the man you love - nothing much to do but have great conversation...maybe a little smoochin' too!! :) Well, why not!?

  24. Thanks everyone for such great comments...never knew red rock could be so interesting!!! We grow it here you know ;~)

Froglander, to answer your question, it's all in the amount of moisture available during baling. It there wasn't enough moisture, your flakes fall apart and you loose lots of your leaves (I also find that my horses don't like the flavor as much either). Of course, too much moisture will cause mold or spontaneous combustion and a fire. So, just the right amount of moisture will give you flakes that are just right! The farmer has to constantly check for the moisture content...that's why you never see baling in the middle of the hot afternoons. Around here, most baling happens at night.

  25. Boy howdy, I know how you feel trying to find a little color this time of year. It's the same in South Dakota...brown, brown and more brown-LOL.

We could load up and go visit Mikey in AZ-it's springtime there. Great temps and everything should be greening up nicely.

  26. I see a upside-down Oscar the Grouch. Humm! Love the pic of the good kind of horse hay, Cindy Sue will look sooo up-town in the new bandanas..you have enough of that great material to make one for the bossman?

  27. Handsome cowboy you got there with a kind smile
    Good try with the colors.

Winter is a hard time to find color.
